Haj 2020

Dubai: Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Transport has completed the maintenance work on 491 kilometres of roads leading to Mecca ahead of this year’s Haj season to ensure the smooth passage of pilgrims to holy sites.

The ministry also assigned buses for each pilgrim group in compliance with precautionary measures and health protocols set by the Ministry of Haj and Umrah and the Ministry of Health to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Periodic and necessary maintenance was carried out on several major roads leading to Mecca, including the Medina Highway, Jeddah Highway, Old Jeddah Road, Al Sail Road, Al Hada Road and Al Layth Road.

The maintenance work was carried out in line with the directives of King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.

The maintenance of roads also included lighting, bridge expansion, fence repair, scraping and asphalting, as well upkeep of directional signs, road signs, road sign holders, painting, cat eyes, construction of concrete and metal barriers, and fence wires.

The ministry confirmed the readiness of all facilities and installations for Haj, highlighting the importance of cooperation by transport users to comply with the necessary preventative measures against COVID-19.
