Muscat: Doctors of the Plastic Surgery and Craniofacial Unit Team in Khoulah Hospital recently succeeded in removing a 13cm tumour from the face of an eight-month-old infant by performing a complicated surgery. The surgery took more than 14 hours, and was the first of its kind in Oman, according to state media.

The baby girl was born with the tumour in the right side of her skull which extended to the outside of her face.

The tumour was pressing on her right eye, affecting her vision and blocking her right nostril.

The infant was previously operated on for a heart condition, having only one centricle instead of two.

Such rare and challenging operations demand the coordination of several medical teams. Seventeen doctors specialising in various fields were involved in this particular case.
