Kuwait City: One million COVID-19 vaccines are expected to arrive in Kuwait by early 2021, a government source told Al Qabas.

Kuwaiti citizens, health workers, front line workers, the elderly and people with chronic illness will be given priority when the first batch of vaccines arrives.

The source said that the vaccines have been developed by three companies, one American, one German and one British, and have been proven to be successful.

In addition, the vaccines have been reviewed by committees within Kuwait, who stressed that the vaccines will not be given unless that have been proven to be safe and effective, the source added.

The source went on to say that for the vaccine to be effective, it will need to be taken by the majority of the population, both citizens and expats, and it will need to be studied by a committee formed by the Cabinet of Ministers and headed by the Minister of Health, Dr Basel Al Sabah.

Once the vaccine is available, it will be voluntary, the source stressed.
