Dubai: What does tolerance mean to you? Is it about peacefully co-existing with people from different communities? Or more?
A group of workers in the UAE showed a heartwarming display of tolerance when they were seen on video contributing to the dam building funds in Pakistan. The twist? The workers were Indian.
A video went viral in September this year showing the Abu Dhabi residents, who work at a restaurant, contributing along with their Pakistani colleagues for the Pakistan dam fund.
In the video, the manager who is Pakistani can be seen joking around with his team, as they step up to share some of their hard-earned money for a good cause.
“Where are you from?” he is heard asking.
“India,” responds the worker with a big smile, holding up a Dh100 note. The man goes on to explain that he is contributing for the Pakistan dam fund along with his other Indian colleague. The team can be seen patting the two on their backs and wishing them well.
Speaking to Gulf News, soon after the video went viral, the manager Uzair Khalid said: “At the restaurant, we have staff from India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. We live here, eat together and stick with each other in good times and bad. For example, one of our brothers died recently and every month each one of us contributes money to send to his family in Pakistan. Similarly, I told the guys to pitch in for the dam funds and our Indian brothers said they wanted to contribute as well. We just made the video for fun, but I can see that there are a lot of positive reviews from people.”
