Patna: A man in India’s Bihar state sent a text message about his suicide plan to his girlfriend shortly before ending his life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan, police has said.

Officials believe a break-up with his girlfriend could be the reason behind his suicide.

Police said 25-year-old Rahul Aditya, the son of a retired government official based in Patna, first made a few calls to his girlfriend on her mobile on Monday night but, as she did not pick up his calls, he finally sent an SMS telling her he was going to commit suicide.

Shortly after that, he ended his life by hanging himself from the ceiling fan. Family members discovered the body on Tuesday afternoon after opening the door to his room.

“I am tired of my life and going to commit suicide,” the police quoted the youth as having written in the message to his girlfriend.

The woman is said to be a daughter of a vigilance officer in Patna and had a marriage arranged for her with another youth, which apparently left the victim in a state of extreme depression.

The story came to light after the police, during the course of investigation, noticed four missed calls on the victim’s cell phone and then called the number.

She told the police she saw the victim’s message when she woke up at night and called him back but, as he did not respond, she went back to sleep. She also said she initially was close to him but broke off her relationship when she came to know he was in touch with another girl.

Reports said the youth was in a state of depression after discovering that the marriage of his girlfriend had been fixed with another youth.

He was also reportedly depressed about his career.
