The girl involved in the Kiliroor sex scandal died at the Medical College Hospital here yesterday. The girl, who was a minor at the time of getting involved in the sex scandal, was 21 at the time of her death.

Oddly enough, the end came a few hours after the state government recommended handing over the infamous case to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The girl, Shari S. Nair, gave birth to a baby girl a few weeks ago. Subsequently she developed health complications and was fighting for her life. The end came as her kidney and other internal organs stopped functioning.

The state government had made last-minute arrangements to provide her all the necessary health care as she won media attention leading to a public uproar coinciding with scams of other similar sex scandals involving minor girls and prominent personalities.

Earlier, the Communist Party of India leader Veliyam Bhargavan called for a CBI inquiry into the Kozhikode ice cream parlour sex scandal.

Kerala Industry Minister P.K. Kunjhalikutty is one of those alleged to have a role in the Kozhikode ice cream parlour sex scandal, with the victim, 22-year-old Regina, accusing him of having sexually abused her thrice seven years ago.

Revolutionary Socialist Party leader P.J. Chandrachoodan also called for Kunjhalikutty's resignation.

Taking a different stance, the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders have alleged a Congress-Muslim League nexus in sabotaging the Kozhikode ice cream parlour sex scam inquiry.
