Keeping young minds and young hands engaged is a specialisation of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS). The workshops organised during the Ice Surprises theme week does just that - keeping the children productively occupied.

Its interesting to watch young minds creatively shaping little blocks of ice into sculptures by using the specialised ice carving tools provided by the Organising Committee of Ice Surprises.
Laila Hareb, deputy head of the Ice Surprises committee, said: "Ice is a fascinating medium for sculpting.

"Speed and technique are the essence in this skill. Through participation in our workshops, children can learn to use ice blocks from their home refrigerators to create beautiful objects.

"We are confident that the hugely popular workshop will be attended by many more children."

The workshop, organised at the malls is ably supervised by trained professionals, who judge the sculptures on the basis of their creativity.

Children can participate in the workshop on a daily basis as well, and also participate in the final competition organised on June 30 at the Dubai Airport Expo.

Many characters for Ice Surprises, such as Sparky and Flashy make special appearances during the workshop to encourage the children.

The Ice Carving Competition and Workshop will be held at the Al Ghurair City today from 7 to 8pm.
