Dubai: You can now get an app that not only monitors how you drive, but also rewards you with a hefty discount on your motor insurance premium if you make the cut. Called SafeDriver, the Pay-How-You-Drive app has just been launched by insurance major i-Insured to help bring down road accidents in the UAE.
Edgar Dawson, retail head of i-Insured, said the app can be downloaded for free once a motorist buys his or her car insurance. “Once downloaded, the user is offered a 30 per cent discount on his motor insurance. But in order to redeem it, his driving behaviour must get a minimum score of 76 points over a period of one year.”
The app has been developed based on the latest machine learning technology and artificial intelligence. After a few kilometres and some trips, it recognises the motorist’s driving pattern. It can also tell if it is the same driver, thus ensuring the safe driving score is based on the same person’s driving behaviour.
The 30 per cent discount can be availed if the safe driving score calculated by the app is above the 76-point threshold.
