The laboratory at the American Hospital in Dubai has been awarded accreditation by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) following several years' preparation and onsite inspection.
A spokesman for the private hospital said its laboratory had all its processes examined and passed by an inspection team from CAP's Commission on Laboratory Accreditation to ensure they meet established standards.
CAP is the world's largest association composed exclusively of pathologists and is widely considered the leader in laboratory quality assurance.
"When accrediation is approved for a laboratory this means that this laboratory has demonstrated high and improving quality," the hospital spokesman said. "The CAP accreditation should assure our customers that our laboratory is following the highest standards possible.
"By integrating these standards into the daily workflow, the laboratory is committing to quality and to a greater impact on patient care as patients and physicians can trust our results."
He said the American Hospital has the first private laboratory in the Middle East and the first in the UAE to receive accrediation from CAP.
