Abu Dhabi: In efforts to create jobs for special needs individuals and further integrate them into society, interview opportunities for 15 disabled people were scheduled on Tuesday in the capital.

In collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Gas Liquefaction Company (Adgas), a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc), and Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs (ZHO), 15 special needs people were nominated and interviewed to explore their potential and capacities.

Mohammad Fadil Al Hameli, deputy chairman and secretary general of ZHO, has expressed his gratitude to Adnoc and Adgas for creating unique opportunities for special needs individuals regardless of their mental and physical abilities.

“The UAE has always been committed to providing careers for disabled people and integrating them into productive and social life by supporting and equipping them with new life skills,” he added.

The number of UAE nationals working in Adnoc has reached 15,000 including 3,000 women.

“The Emiratisation rate has reached 35 per cent in Adnoc and the company will always support disabled people, who possess strong capabilities and great potential, which will enable them to be productive members of society,” Mubarak Al Mehairbi, human resources and recruitment manager at Adnoc, said.

Additionally, several initiatives were announced earlier this year to match the potential of people with special needs and meet the growing demands for high quality products made in the UAE.

A new factory, which can employ over 170 disabled individuals, will be also established within two years in the capital to help people with disabilities to socialise, express their feelings and explore their talents.

The factory is a collaboration between ZHO and Senaat, one of the largest industrial investment and holding companies in the UAE, and will be equipped with machines and modified to assist disabled workers.

Different jobs will be provided including furniture manufacturing, sewing and packing.
