Abu Dhabi: The Municipality of Abu Dhabi has launched the second phase of a crackdown against unauthorised housing and makeshift additions to villas and flats in both residential and commercial use.

The municipality will remove these violations and take action against the offenders.

The campaign that was launched on Sunday aims at maintaining the security and safety of the community and the capital's aesthetics.

The municipal squad will target arbitrary additions to houses and flats, and tackle offences associated with crowded and disorderly bachelor accommodation in residential and commercial areas so as to eliminate their negative social and economic impacts.

The officials will implement the injunctions issued against villas and residential buildings that have made unlicensed additions in breach of the building codes.

Owaidah Al Qubaisi, acting executive director of Municipal Services Sector, said: "Through continuing these campaigns the municipality is seeking to enhance the community's awareness of ... security and safety, make concerted efforts to combat them, and educate tenants, investors and landlords on the serious social impacts resulting from these outlawed buildings and additions."

The campaign is run by the municipality in collaboration with the General Headquarter of Abu Dhabi Police, Ministry of Labour, Civil Defence Department, and Over-Stayers and Foreigners Division at the General Department of Naturalisation and Residency.
