The Asus MX279H is the 27-inch version of the Designo series of Frameless Display Monitors. In addition to the large screen size, the monitor features a very slim profile – just 17.5 mm, and an edge to edge design which means the screen is flush with the bezel; the bezel itself is only 0.8mm thick. The result is a monitor that takes up very little space on the desk – for its size – and it looks very slick too. It is hosted on a chrome stand with a circular base.

The monitor features an LED-backlit AH-IPS panel that displays accurate colours while reducing the energy consumed by the monitor. It offers a 178 degree viewing angle which results in a lesser distortion of images and visuals from just about any position.

The Asus Smart Contrast Ratio of 80,000,000:1 and 250 cd/m² of brightness help in delivering the great picture quality. However the monitor only has a resolution of 1920x 1080; a monitor this size would be better off with a higher resolution, perhaps 2560x1440.

The Asus Monitor includes six preset modes – Standard/sRGB/Scenery/Theatre/Game/Night – for quick adjustment of visual settings, and can be toggled with monitor controls. Advanced users can always manually configure each element of the visual configuration.

The Asus Monitor doesn’t just look great, but also sounds great. It features ASUS SonicMaster technology was developed jointly by the ASUS Golden Ear team and Bang & Olufen ICEPower. The result is a great sounding experience that matches many desktop speakers. The monitor has dual 3W speakers built in.

There are plenty of connectivity options on the ASUS MX279H – it features 2 HDMI ports, a VGA port and 3.5mm sound port so you could have multiple devices connected to it.

The Asus Designo MX279H Monitor is priced at Dh1,355. It is priced well for a monitor of its size. However, a monitor this size would be better suited with a higher resolution. At this size and resolution, the pixel density takes a hit. For users who are looking for a larger monitor over a higher density display, this Asus Monitor makes for a good purchase. However if you want a sharper display, look at other monitors - including that from Asus – offering a resolution of 2560 pixels wide.
