Dubai: Clemens Schmid closed the gap on Abdul Aziz Al Faisal to 10 points at the top of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge drivers’ championship, with victory in round seven at the Reem International Circuit in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.

Schmid’s Al Nabooda Racing teammate Karim Al Azhari came sixth, while Al Faisal’s Saudi Falcons’ wingman Faisal Bin Laden finished third.

Al Azhari’s slip only adds pressure on Al Nabooda Racing in the constructors’ championship, with the Saudi Falcons now just 16 points behind them with five races left.

Schmid said: “It was a fantastic race for me as I held my position from start to finish. I knew Abdul Aziz was going to be in contention and once he overtook Bin Laden early in the race I knew he was going to push me hard. But I knew if I could hold my lead in the opening lap, I would win the race.”
