Why must some people draw graffiti for their cause?

I personally think street art can be beautiful, but I don’t know why people need to break the law to demonstrate or express their thoughts (‘Facebook video: Breaking stereotypes...’, Gulf News, May 17). To each to their own. Perhaps it is a liberation movement for some, but for others, it could be disrespectful towards their beliefs or culture.

There needs to be a balance. The more you constrain someone, the more they want to break the barriers. Humans were born with free will and must be allowed to choose their own path.

The city is the canvas

In my city, they always support art and every wall owned by the government can be used to draw art, like the walls near my home. It has very beautiful art. People always take pictures of it, by posing next to the walls.

A man of potential

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is considered a stern administrator, who is protective, strict and disciplined (‘61% satisfied with Indian PM Modi’s 3 years — survey’, Gulf News, May 17). He has a keen interest in science and technology. He is realistic as well as idealistic. He is full of optimism. He is best known for rising from humble beginnings to become the Prime Minister of India. He will always be remembered as a successful politician and poet. You can only rate something when that thing completely unfolds before your eyes or the process is completed. Modi has just begun his big journey. It would be too early to rate him. However, I would say that he has launched himself with a start, which itself is a move to be appreciated.

Inaccurate poll

If 61 per cent voted for Modi in this survey, that doesn’t mean that this accounts for the whole of India. It’s an exaggeration on a census. There is much more to be done to properly poll in an unbiased manner. There are many who are not comfortable in India in many sections of the country because of his policies and actions. No doubt he is doing things for India, but not as expected.

Gaining support

I, too, am satisfied with Modi’s leadership. Initially, I didn’t support him and I didn’t even vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the last general election. Now, I am in full support of him and he is getting support across the country. The results were shown in the general elections, when I didn’t even vote, but now in many of the state elections, his party is gaining better results, like in Uttar Pradesh.

I guess there isn’t a party that is going to stop him and there isn’t a leader like him.

The reality

Modi has done his best for the nation, each and every second since the day he became Prime Minister of India. The ones who are criticising are doing so habitually from day one, since he took office. I think he will continue for the next decade. The government is performing well in India. There hasn’t been a scam in the past three years and this is not a small achievement. This survey is giving truthful results.

All work and no pay?

It is really shocking and shameful to know from M. R. Vijayabhaskar, the Indian Transportation Minister, that payment of arrears for transport workers have been pending for 20 years and cannot be given. Yes, we know that it is difficult to pay arrears in a single day. However, what were successive governments doing during the past 20 years? It is a collective failure on the part of those who were in power during the past two decades. Will the members of Parliament and the members of the Legislative Assembly forgo their salary and perks for long? While we sympathise with the transport workers, it was foolish of them to destroy the buses that are their bread and butter. Ultimately, it’s the common man who has to suffer due to these kinds of strikes.
