Don’t be biased

This is regarding a Gulf News report that is once again showing India as a bad country (“24 convicted 14 years after Gujarat massacre”, Gulf News, June 3). This is not the first time this has happened. The way the headline has been written, stating ‘Gujarat massacre’, is editorialising the news. I am a Gujarati, and we do not believe it was a massacre. The highest court of India has said Narendra Modi is innocent, so why is the newspaper spreading lies by calling it a massacre? Is it not going to create a bad relationship between India and UAE? Please focus on the news and do not make news into opinion by editorialising.

A massacre is defined as the unnecessary, indiscriminate killing of a large number of human beings. In this case, 69 people were hacked to death and burnt in one of the worst incidents of week-long violence in Gujarat, which eventually left 1,000 people dead. Therefore, the use of the term ‘massacre’ is justified.
