Dubai: Starting Sunday, June 17, residents of Al Khail Gate must have a new annual parking card displayed in their car, or pay Dh32 per day.

Failure to do so would invite a fine.

The annual parking cards bearing the dates from June 17, 2018 to June 17, 2019 had been issued by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) specifically for the residential community.

A Dh200 fine for illegal parking will be slapped on vehicles parked in areas allocated for card holders.

Some residents had asked to be exempted from paying the annual parking fee, while others asked for parking permits for two vehicles.

Deadline

The issuance of the parking cards confirms that some residents had already resigned to the idea of not getting any exemptions, and many have started applying for the new cards before the June 17 deadline.

The paid-parking system was installed after the developer was inundated with complaints from residents over lack of parking spaces and fines for parking violations.

In April, the RTA announced a Dh4 per hour 24/7 parking fee in Al Khail Gate, located close to the Al Quoz industrial area.

Al Khail Gate residents had asked to be exempted from the Dh2,500 annual parking fee, but no exemptions were granted.

Parking dispenser machines and new signs designating residents' and visitors' parking had been installed from March.

Following the Gulf News report about the move to make the gated community in Al Quoz a paid parking zone, the RTA issued a press release confirming the details.

“The RTA will take over the management and operation of parking lots at Al Khail Gate Community in the second quarter of this year,” the authority stated.

Zoning plan

The parking lot at Al Khail Gate Community has been classified into different zones designated by clearly displayed signs as per the needs of the Community.

"Some parking spaces will be allocated to residents only, and others will be available for visitors,” said Hussain Al Banna, executive director of Traffic, Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA.

He stated that these parking lots will be subject to tariff 24x7 once taken over by the RTA.

“The fee will be Dh4 per hour and a maximum daily fee of Dh32 per 24 hours. Seasonal parking permits will be provided to residents at different rates, depending on the validity of the permit.”

Dh2,500 per year; Dh1,500 for 6 months; Dh1,000 for 3 months

“Permits on offer include Dh2,500 per annum, Dh1,500 per six months, and Dh1,000 per three months. Permits will enable residents to use the entire parking zones, be it for residents or visitors,” added Al Banna.

The authority said the move is intended to streamline parking area usage in the area that has a high occupancy rate and provide the highest number of parking slots possible to users.

“Our primary focus is to discourage non-residential vehicles that our often parked for long periods within the community,” Al Khail Gate property management had said, while revealing the shifting of the management of parking spaces to the RTA in a community announcement to the tenants.
