Dubai: Pakistan’s Prime Minister-in-waiting Imran Khan seems to be trending on social media every day. Since his party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), won a majority in the general elections on July 25, Khan’s followers have also been increasing on Twitter. And today, he has landed in the list of top 10 most followed world leaders on the platform.

The PTI chairman has 8.18 million followers on Twitter, making him the seventh most followed world leader on the social networking website, as reported by Geo News, a Pakistani TV news channel.

One of the twitter accounts of the party, @InsafPK, also posted an update: “Imran Khan becomes seventh most followed world leader on Twitter. Apart from that, he is the first to be adored by his nation on such a massive scale. @ImranKhanPTI”

The news was immediately being shared by tweeps, along with a lot of praise for the cricketer-turned-politician.

Tweep @kamran2188 wrote: “He will become one of the top three most followed leaders in the world very soon.”

@Shahidkhattak0 tweeted: “On this happy occasion, I want to pay special tribute to PTI social media team and volunteers for their tireless support to @ImranKhanPTI in making Naya Pakistan.”

US President Donald Trump is by far the most followed world leader on Twitter, with 53.5 million users following him, with Indian Prime Minister Nardendra Modi on the second spot with 43.3 million followers.
