I visited the Raw Coffee Company last week to sample coffee in its purest form - coffee brewed from beans roasted in front of me. Being a compulsive coffee drinker, I have tasted the fare at most cafes (Dubai has some of the grooviest places to grab a cup of coffee), but tasting a cup made from freshly ground beans was an opportunity I just couldn't miss.
Located on the ground floor of the Dubai Garden Centre, the Raw Coffee Company's roastery is a compact and sophisticated facility that hosts both coffee customers and staff training sessions.
I reclined on the comfortable seat and ordered my first cup of coffee - a double shot latte. I watched as the brew trickled into the cup. The intoxicating aroma was enough to stimulate my dull senses, especially on a weekend. I took the first sip of the warm drink and it was pure bliss! The coffee was smooth without a hint of bitterness. In a few minutes, I had emptied the contents of the huge mug and was ready for the second cup, a flat white coffee.
This coffee is much lighter and it looks really good too. It comes with less froth than the cappuccino and is definitely less milky than the latte. It was the perfect brew for me since it gave me a taste of my favourite hot drink - the Americano (it's a better looking version, though). I relished the entire cup of coffee.
I certainly had more than my fair share of caffeine and was ready to leave, but I couldn't resist the offer to sample an espresso shot. Although I'm not a big fan of it, there was something magical about this one.
After a quick lesson on how to make coffee, I left the Raw Coffee roastery feeling refreshed and alert. If you're a coffee connoisseur, this is a place you must visit!
