Intricate wooden panels and beautiful wall paintings give Ashiana Restaurant the look of some magnificent Indian palace.

However, if diners expect only a traditional Indian meal in keeping with its décor, they might be in for a pleasant surprise, because the menu includes exciting new dishes and popular favourites!

On the menu

Food lovers can try the new summer promotion (on till July 20) featuring five delectable dishes with a fruity twist at the eatery situated on the upper lobby of the Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers in Deira.

For starters, you can try the aam ras (Dh29), a small bowl filled with a thick puree of Alphonso mango with a dash of saffron. You can savour it like a soup with puris (a type of bread), which balances out the chilled sweet flavour of mango.

The kairi ki dal (Dh36) is a mix of yellow lentils with raw mangoes. It gives your taste buds distinct flavours: the strong texture of lentils followed by the tangy taste of mango that lingers in your mouth for a fraction of a second.

Don't miss the thanden masale ki macchli (Dh86): cubes of boneless fish simmered to perfection in whole spices. You won't miss the taste of summer fruits in the sauce. Those who like chicken may try the kharbooze ka murg (Dh42): chicken covered in melon gravy and garnished with almonds. A true summer delight as the familiar taste of chicken is overpowered by the melon gravy.

Different contrast

For those who prefer a conventional dish, nalli ka korma — lamb shank cooked in brown onion and garlic sauce — may provide a contrast to the lighter flavours on the promotional menu.

For dessert, I suggest you try out the alphonso kulfi (Dh40) with the softest mangoes you may have ever tasted. Indian chef Anuj Sood said: "I wanted to create traditional Indian dishes with a little difference."

Yes, we must agree it's different no doubt. Go, try it!
