I have dry skin and pigmentation problems. Can you guide me how to use Ayurveda remedies to improve my complexion?

Ayurveda has a holistic definition of beauty that includes Roopam, outer beauty which is personified by shining, healthy skin and hair and a clear, radiant complexion; Gunam, inner beauty characterized by a warm, pleasing personality and the purity of mind; and Vayastyag, lasting beauty where you look and feel younger than your chronological age.

Skin beauty is assessed by Varna (color), Chaya (shade) and Prabha (glow) in Ayurveda.

Varna denotes the skin color which is characterized by the level of melanin pigments.

Chaya denotes the shade or complexion which might be due to factors like carotene pigments (orange color) and bile pigments (yellowish), oxygen rich hemoglobin (reddish or rosy) etc which can modify the skin colour. Light skinned individuals might have a rosy effect. Ayurveda suggests, external applications and oils and therapies to improve Chaya.

Prabha denotes radiance or luminance which is due to greater reflection of light from the skin, blood oxygenation, increased vascularisation, and physiological health. Ayurveda suggests Rasayana (tonics) to improve Prabha

Our body type also influences skin nature. Vata constituted people have dry skin and scanty hair. Pitta constituted people are characterized by sensitive skin and have fine, brownish hair. Kapha types usually have oily skin and dark and thick hair. It is important to understand one’s body type to make a healthy regimen for hair and skin. Issues like stress, underlying health conditions, hormonal imbalances, and improper diet, digestion, and lifestyle also affects the skin health.
