Who's in it? Neil Patrick Harris, Katy Perry, George Lopez, Alan Cumming, Hank Azaria

The plot When the evil wizard Gargamel (Azaria) chases the Smurfs out of their village, they're forced through a portal, out of their world and into ours, landing in the middle of New York's Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before the dastardly Gargamel tracks them down...

What we liked Adults who actually remember the characters from the Saturday morning cartoon, will enjoy the hefty sense of nostalgia here, and Azaria steals every scene as Gargamel, along with his cat, Azrael. Kids will love the way the CGI allows the Smurfs to interact with their human saviours.

What we didn't like By setting the movie in present-day Manhattan and with a plethora of celebrity voices, the movie loses some of the timeless quality that made the Smurfs the worldwide phenomenon they are.
