It’s not often that an actor gets to play opposing roles in the same film.

Srikanth fans are in for a surprise when Tamil film Sowcarpettai releases this week.

Sowcarpettai is director V.C. Vadivudaiyan’s third film, in which Srikanth plays both Vetri, the protagonist, and Shakti, the antagonist.

Since the film portrays Vetri’s story through his different stages of life, Srikanth had several different looks.

“I even played a teenaged schoolboy, much to my embarrassment,” said Srikanth with a smile.

Shakti, meanwhile, is involved in black magic and the role gave the actor the opportunity to experiment.

“Initially I was apprehensive about doing Shakti,” he says.

“I had to be loud and my body language was cut loose. But within a few days, I got into the groove and encouragement from the crew and director instilled in me greater confidence.”

Shakti’s look and makeup was time-consuming, he adds.

Sowcarpettai, a revenge tale, was shot in graveyards and called for difficult action sequences for the lead pair, Srikanth and Lakmi Rai.

Srikanth found the scenes where Shakti and Vetri face each other a real challenge.

“It was like shadow boxing, where you have to deliver the right moves and portray emotions, too,” adds Srikanth, crediting stunt master Kanal Kannan for choreographing the sequences well.

Srikanth is looking forward to doing many more films this year; next up is Nambiar, his debut production, a socio-fantasy featuring him and Santhanam in the lead.
