Hollywood star and certified pilot John Travolta will be landing in Dubai on September 9 for his first Middle Eastern adventure.

But it’s no emergency landing, as the star, who’s the ambassador-at-large for Australian carrier Qantas, has a well-planned itinerary filled with cocktail parties, high-tea and some sight-seeing. The ‘Grease’ star said he’s looking forward to his week-long Arabian adventure starting Monday and can’t wait to experience “Dubai’s diverse range of culture, cuisine and architecture.”

“I’m really excited, I’ve been wanting to experience Dubai for many years now, and the launch of Qantas services to Dubai has given me the perfect opportunity to do so,” Travolta said in a statement.

It’s not the first time that Travolta has joined the cause of showcasing Qantas to the world. In 2010, he worked along with TV mogul Oprah Winfrey as she took her studio audience on an eight-day expenses-paid trip to Australia. Travolta served as their pilot for the trip and made the grand announcement on the show.

“I always love showcasing Qantas to the world. As one of the world’s leading long-distance carriers, Qantas takes the best of Australia to the world, and the best of the world to Australia,” he added in the statement. The admiration isn’t one-sided.

Meeting fans

Rohan Garnett, Qantas Middle East & North Africa General Manager, said a series of competitions and events are being planned to provide their customers a chance to meet with the legendary star.

“John Travolta has been part of the Qantas family for over 10 years. He’s a highly qualified pilot with 747-400 “wings” and flies his own ex-Qantas Boeing 707 around the world, painted in its original 1960s livery,” Garnett said in a statement.

Travolta, 59, gained international stardom in the 1977 film ‘Saturday Night Fever’ and is now one of Hollywood’s biggest names, with hit movies such as ‘Pulp Fiction’ and ‘Primary Colors’ under his belt. He’s married to Kelly Preston.
