Deals with private sector lasting 20 to 30 years planned in place of those for 1 to 2 years

Abu Dhabi: The government is considering long-term contracts with the private sector to maintain its facilities, a senior official said Monday.

At the moment maintenance contracts are for one or two years, but the government is considering long-term contracts of 20 to 30 years, said Mazen Ali, Head of Infrastructure Design at the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City.

Speaking at the Abu Dhabi Infrastructure Congress Monday, he said such an arrangement would be a partnership with the private sector, which will ensure the involvement and responsibility of both parties.

Ali said long-term partnerships with the private sector will ensure stability in the market. About the major proj-ects in the Abu Dhabi 2030 plan, he said a Dh7-billion venture to improve housing for Emiratis will be implemented.

Such projects will create many opportunities for the private sector, he said.
