Emirates, the largest customer for Airbus SAS' A380 Superjumbo, yesterday said it expects the European aircraft manufacturer to honour the delivery clauses built in the contract.

Emirates is not seeking compensation yet, an airline spokesperson said.

Airbus officially informed Emirates of a possible delay of up to six months for the delivery of A380 aircraft. The airline has 45 Superjumbos on order, including two freighters.

"Each contract has a built-in compensation clause on late delivery. We are not talking about compensation yet. However, if there is a delay, we expect Airbus to honour the delivery clauses," Mike Simon, Emirates' senior vice-president for corporate communications, told Gulf News yesterday.

"We hope Airbus will deliver the aircraft as per the contract. However, they informed us of a possible delay up to six months."

Airbus A380 was officially unveiled in January this year and on April 27, it successfully took off the ground on its maiden flight. It is scheduled to be delivered to launch customers next year following certification.

However, technical glitches have forced Airbus to announce delays in delivery. Emirates' first delivery is scheduled for October 2006, when the new concourse at Dubai International Airport, which will cater to the Superjumbo, will be ready.
