The father, Abdullah Al Ashri, appeared in a clip posted on social media, and said the accident took place on the first day of the holiday with his 18-year-old son driving on a dirt road off King Faisal Road which is the main artery of the neighbourhood.

The road had remained in a poor condition for more than 10 months with no lighting, barriers, or proper lanes to assist motorists and the matter was made worse by the presence of an ill-placed wall which citizens had reported more than once and most recently a couple of months ago. But nobody took any action against it.

He added complaints were submitted to the municipality by citizens living in the area to get the area properly lit, but they had fallen on deaf ears.

Mohammad Al Baqmi, media spokesperson for the Jeddah Municipality, told Al Watan that the secretariat regrets the painful incident and asks Almighty Allah that the dead be shrouded with His mercy. An investigation is underway.
