Eid Al Adha 2024 in UAE: Dubai allocates 851 mosques for Eid prayers

Dubai: The Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department has announced that 851 mosques across Dubai will host the Eid Al Adha prayers this year.

The prayers are scheduled to begin at 5:45 am, allowing worshippers to perform their rituals at the mosque closest to them.  (Check out the Eid Al Adha prayer timings in UAE)

Eid Al Adha prayer is a special ritual performed by Muslims on this day. It consists of two units (rakats) of prayer, usually performed in a large congregation at an open area or mosque. The prayer is followed by a sermon (khutbah), where the Imam discusses the significance of the occasion and imparts moral teachings. It is recommended that the prayer be performed after the sun has fully risen but before it reaches its zenith. Unlike regular prayers, there are no calls to prayer (Adhan or Iqama) for the Eid prayer.

During the Eid Al Adha prayer, there are extra takbirs called "Takbirat Al Ihram." After the initial takbir to start the prayer, there are typically seven additional takbirs in the first rakat and five additional takbirs in the second rakat before reciting Surah Al Fatiha.

After the prayer, Muslims partake in the act of Qurbani, the ritual slaughter of an animal, typically a sheep, goat, cow, or camel, symbolising Prophet Ibrahim's sacrifice. The meat from the sacrifice is distributed among family, friends, and the poor.

Sharjah readies 640 mosques, musallas

The Department of Islamic Affairs in Sharjah has allocated 640 musallas and mosques across the emirate for Eid Al Adha prayers. This includes designated prayer areas, public squares, and mosques where Friday prayers are held.

The musallas and mosques are distributed across the cities and suburbs of the Emirate, including 447 musallas and mosques in Sharjah City and Al Hamriyah, 106 in the Central Region, and 87 in the Eastern Region.

Several musallas and mosques have been designated for non-Arabic speakers, offering services in languages such as Urdu, Malayalam, Tamil, and English.

Additionally, instant translation of the Eid sermon into sign language will be provided at the Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal Mosque in Al Jazzat area for those with hearing impairments.

The department has ensured the readiness of musallas and mosques for Eid Al Adha prayers, with specialised teams preparing prayer areas and external spaces to accommodate large numbers of worshippers. Cooling and sound systems have also been installed. The department has instructed mosque personnel to open mosques after Fajr prayers to receive worshippers.

Eid Al Adha prayers are scheduled at:

5:44 am in Sharjah City and Al Hamriyah

5:43 am in Al Dhaid and Al Bataeh

5:44 am in Al Madam and Mleiha

5:41 am in the Eastern Region.
