I had come across a community report in Gulf News regarding the lack of a pedestrian crossing on Doha Street in the Al Ghusais area (“Pedestrian crossing urgently needed in Al Ghusais area”, Gulf News, April 8.) The residents staying close to this street have a hard time, especially in the mornings from 7 to 9am and also from 1.30 to 2.30pm, which is when parents are either picking or dropping their children to the school in the area.
There is only one exit leading to this area. With school buses and parents picking or dropping children off, it creates congestion at the exit to Doha street. There are times when it has taken me up up to 45 minutes to cover a stretch of less than 1km due to the school congestion.
I request the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to look into this issue, so that an alternative exit can be constructed so there is no traffic pile up to exit the area.
I would suggest another exit to be made straight to Doha street, opposite to the school in the area, or an exit to Baghdad Street. With numerous buildings coming up in this area and more residents moving in, the need of the hour is another exit to make our travel smooth and less time-consuming.
We are assured that the RTA will surely consider our plight and give us a solution.
