Cairo: Saudi authorities have said that presenting a divorce document is mandatory for divorced women to get remarried, according to a newspaper report.

The Justice Ministry said that if a divorcee wants to get married again, she has to present her divorce document when the new marriage contract is conducted, according to the Saudi newspaper Okaz.

The ministry noted that the divorce document carries an issuance date and a serial number, advising the woman to check with the issuing agency in case she does not have the document.

Contracts rise

Saudis’ marriage contracts rose by nearly 9 per cent last year totalling 150,117 contracts, compared to the previous year, according to official figures.

In the same vein, divorce rates in the kingdom increased by 12.7 per cent reaching a total of 57,595 registered cases in 2020 against the previous year, according to figures released by the Saudi General Authority for Statistics.
