Muscat: Today, February 24, Oman celebrated Teacher’s Day. And one of the first to share wishes was the first lady Sayyida Ahad bint Abdullah bin Hamad Al Busaidiyah, who greeted teachers on this occasion.

Oman’s Minister of Education, Dr Madiha bint Ahmed bin Nasser al Shibaniyah, praised the teaching community for rising up to challenges brought about by COVID-19. She said there never has been a more difficult time than this and acknowledged the sacrifices made by the teachers, despite the hurdles in the way of continuing the process of education.

In the current academic year, the number of teaching staff in public schools across the Sultanate was 56,827, which includes both male and female teachers. The majority of the teaching staff were Omani with 48,176 engaged in the profession; 72.96 per cent of these teachers are women.

Many ministers, and members of general public shared their sentiments through messages. Oman’s Salam Air even came up with a special offer on the occasion with 25 per cent discounts for employees of the Ministry of Education. Al Izz Islamic bank conducted an exclusive ‘Omani Teacher’s Day’ draw for teachers today. Some coffee shops, hotels and restaurants in Oman have offered free services and products for teachers, while some others have offered deep discounts especially for this day.
