Muscat: A special task force of Royal Oman Police (ROP) saved a Pakistani national (identified only as T.U.B) from the clutches of his kidnappers and arrested 21 of his compatriots for the act.

"The entire plot of kidnapping was busted due to excellent team work between two police stations and the special task force," a spokesperson for the ROP's Public Relations Department said in a press release today.

A friend of the victim had alerted police about the kidnapping. "The victim was sleeping when the accused kidnapped him," the police spokesperson said.

The police traced the kidnappers to a remote place near Izki town. "The victim was rescued safely and all the 21 involved in kidnapping were arrested," he said.

According to police the victim was kidnapped by the accused as he was not returning money he had borrowed from some of them.

In a similar case, police raided a house in Khaboura in North Batinah and arrested five Asians (Pakistanis and Bangladeshi nationals) for kidnapping an Asian following financial disputes and unfulfilled promises to bring in workers from outside Oman.

All the accused in both the cases will be referred to the court.
