Cairo: A Kuwaiti lawmaker suspected infection of the novel coronavirus has prompted the suspension of the country’s parliamentary sessions for at least two weeks, Kuwaiti newspaper Al Qabas has reported.
The parliament’s Speaker Marzouq Al Ghanem has said that a lawmaker, highly suspected of having contracted the new coronavirus, attended a session of the assembly held on Tuesday when the ministers of finance and education were grilled.
Reports went round that MP Hemdan Al Azami had contracted the virus. Later, the lawmaker denied the news, saying he tested negative for COVID-19.
The parliament’s general secretariat, meanwhile, requested the participants in the Tuesday session to undergo 14-day home isolation and to avoid going outdoors unless for absolute necessity. The attendees were also asked to immediately report displaying any potential symptoms of the disease.
Al Qabas, citing unidentified sources, reported that the government ministers, who attended the session, are likely to undergo the same measures.
