Cairo: The Bahraini parliament has welcomed Germany’s designation of Lebanon's Iran-allied Hezbollah group as a terrorist organisation and banning all its activites there.
“This step supports efforts of combatting terror and helps achieve the international community’s objectives of putting an end to the extremist practices and harm resulting from the militias’ role,” head of the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee at the Bahraini Council of Representatives, Mohammad Ebrahim, said late Friday.
The ban on Hezbollah was announced Thursday by Germany where police raided mosque associations thought to be linked to the militia.
“There is a need for all countries of the world to join hands, formulate a unified global vision on militias and terror movements, and put an end to propagation of extremist ideas or calls for violence," Ebrahim was quoted by Bahraini newspaper Akhbar Al Khaliji as saying.
Bahraini Foreign Ministry earlier hailed Germany's ban of Hezbollah, saying the move reflects Berlin's resolve to "confront terrorist organizations whatever those support them".
In recent years, Bahrain has uncovered several terror groups linked to Iran.
