Manila: President Benigno Aquino vowed to lessen smoking and intake of cola drinks and chocolate, following his New Year's resolution to exercise daily and become physically fit in 2011, a TV report said.

"I will lessen on all these things," Aquino told ABS CBN when asked if he would stop smoking and intake of soft drinks and chocolate candies.

He did not say how many cigarettes he would have a day.

New Year's resolution

Earlier, Aquino did not include smoking and bad eating habits when he said that his New Year's resolution was to be physically fit in 2011.

When he won the presidency last May, he said that he should not be pressured to quit smoking.

Before 2010 ended, Aquino said: "If there are other things that I should do to continue what I've been doing [in terms of governance], I hope I could find the strength to do that. In that light, I will regularly exercise. I'm taking up biking."

He received a mountain bike during a retreat at the presidential rest house in Baguio City.

Aquino did not say if he will exercise in a public gym or if he will set up a personal gym in Malacanang, the presidential palace.
