Islamabad: The UAE’s ambassador to Pakistan, Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Al Zaabi, has called for strengthening academic ties and educational cooperation between Pakistan and UAE during a visit to Islamic University in Islamabad.
The visit was part of the hygiene campaign launched by the UAE Embassy to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic and create awareness among students as the schools recently opened in Pakistan after a six-month closure.
During his visit to the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) on Tuesday, the UAE Ambassador gifted reference books and 7,600 bottles of hand sanitizers to the new campus of the university.
Hamad Al Zaabi also held a detailed meeting with the President of IIUI, Dr. Hathal bin Hamoud Al-Otaibi, a Saudi educationist. Dr Hathal lauded the efforts of the embassy and apprised the ambassador about the University’s vision, activities and achievements.
The university “is keen to further enhance cooperation in the field of higher education with the universities of Muslim world”, Dr Hathal remarked. Hailing the IIUI as one of the vital institutions of the Muslim world, Al Zaabi called for enhanced collaboration between educational institutions in Pakistan and the UAE.
Deep-rooted ties
Discussing Pakistan-UAE ties, the Ambassador highlighted that the deep-rooted relations between Pakistan and the UAE are based on political, economic and trade relations, defense and security ties, cultural cooperation and exchange of experiences. “The UAE leadership always given importance to assist the health and education sectors in the brotherly Islamic Republic of Pakistan,” the Ambassador said.
Health and education
The UAE Embassy recently launched a hygiene campaign under “Let’s give everyone a clean hand” theme to raise awareness on cleanliness at campuses amid the pandemic. The campaign is an attempt to contribute to the Government of Pakistan’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Last week, Ambassador Al Zaabi visited the country’s top institute, Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) Islamabad, to distribute 300 reference books and 4,000 bottles of hand sanitizers.
