Dubai: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan has finally responded to a growing public sentiment that he deserves the world’s top peace award. His opinion: he is not worthy.
After he called for peace and better sense to prevail during an escalation of tensions between rivals India and Pakistan last month, many social media users signed a petition for him to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, for the manner in which he handled the crisis.
A resolution was also submitted in Pakistan’s secretariat of the National Assembly by Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry to nominate Imran Khan for the prize.
This morning, Khan tweeted from his official Twitter handle - @ImranKhanPTI - talking about how the person who would deserve such a prize would be the one who resolves the Kashmir dispute.
Many Twitter users found it refreshing to see that Khan was shifting the focus from personalities to issues, saying it was a sign of a true leader.
Others hoped that this might be a positive step in resolving the long-standing dispute.
