Islamabad: Prominent Pakistani religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel was admitted to hospital on Sunday after testing positive for coronavirus.
“I was not feeling well from the last few days” and after the COVID-19 test came positive, “I was admitted to the hospital on the advice of the doctors” the scholar shared on his Twitter account. He requested his followers to pray for his health.
Tariq Jameel, 67, is a popular Muslim preacher who achieved fame with his message of religious tolerance, self-purification, observance of Allah’s orders and pursuing the way of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Maulana Tariq Jameel belongs to the Tablighi Jamaat group and has delivered thousands of lectures around the world. Hundreds of Pakistanis took to social media to send their prayers and wish Tariq Jameel a speedy recovery after the news broke on Twitter.
Prime Minister Imran Khan sent his best wishes to the religious scholar and swift recovery from coronavirus. “Praying for Maulana Tariq Jameel’s speedy and full recovery from the COVID-19,” the Pakistani premier said in a tweet.
PTI Senator Faisal Javed Khan also sent his prayer. “Lots of prayers for Maulana Tariq Jameel sahab for his quick recovery,” he wrote.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in coronavirus cases in recent weeks. At least 2,362 new coronavirus cases were reported during the last 24 hours, taking the country’s tally to 440,787. The virus claimed 36 lives on December 13.
