Dubai, UAE: Tap Payments, a leading payment institution and technology provider in the Middle East and North Africa, has partnered with Mastercard to introduce the world’s first Click to Pay with Payment Passkey service, setting a global benchmark for secure online shopping.
Payment Passkeys revolutionize the online shopping experience by replacing traditional One-Time Passwords (OTPs) with simple biometric authentication, such as fingerprints or facial recognition. Launched via Mastercard’s Payment Gateway by Tap Payments, the service delivers faster transactions while significantly enhancing fraud resistance.
Consumer demand for streamlined security is evident: Mastercard research shows 90% of consumers prefer biometric security over traditional passwords. This innovation pairs Click to Pay’s secure tokenization with biometric verification, creating a robust layer of protection for consumer data. Returning shoppers are automatically recognized by their device or email, ensuring a frictionless yet highly secure checkout process.
“At Tap Payments, we are committed to providing unparalleled payment experiences. Every digital transaction is a moment of trust between merchants and shoppers, which is why we continue to implement robust security measures. Our collaboration with Mastercard pushes the boundaries of eCommerce innovation, making online payments easier, faster, and more secure than ever,” said Ali Abulhasan, Co-Founder & CEO of Tap Payments.
Maria Parpou, Executive Vice President at Mastercard Gateway, added: “Our partnership with Tap Payments introduces a new standard in secure, seamless online transactions. By integrating Click to Pay with Payment Passkey, Mastercard is elevating the eCommerce experience, ensuring shoppers can transact confidently and conveniently with cutting-edge technology that prioritizes security.”
Initially launching in the UAE, this groundbreaking service will roll out across Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, reinforcing MENA’s status as a global fintech hub.
This technology is underpinned by industry standards from EMVCo, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), and the FIDO Alliance, creating a comprehensive and secure payment ecosystem.
