Dubai: The Wifi internet environment proposed at Metro stations and in the trains will positively influence the uptake of technology and encourage passengers to find time for reading, a senior official at the Rail Agency of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority said.
Metro passengers would be able to directly access the internet using their laptops or personal digital assistants (PDAs) while travelling to their destinations, the official said.
The Dubai Metro will cater to an average of 1.2 million passengers every day and will cater to nearly 17 per cent of the public transport needs of the emirate.
"The way we have designed the Metro will definitely improve [the] lifestyle of people as they will have more time to interact with other people travelling with them in the same train," he said.
The official said that a marketing and awareness campaign has already been initiated to promote the use of the Metro.
"Apart from educating people about the benefits of using the Metro, the campaign also focuses on how the use of the Metro will transform their lifestyle and interactions with people around them."
