Al Ain: Abu Dhabi Police have rescued a three-year-old who fell into an empty well while playing at his house in Al Ain's Mazyad area.

Lieutenant Colonel Zayed Mohammad Al Hajiri, acting head of the Emergency and Public Safety Section at Abu Dhabi Police, said the child apparently tripped on the wooden lid placed at the mouth of the well.

The Police Operations Room responded after receiving a report on Monday about a child who had fallen into an abandoned well. The well, it turned out, was 11 metres deep.

A rescue team rushed to the scene and managed to rescue the boy who had sustained minor injuries. The boy was treated for bruises, according to paramedics and a medical team who attended on him.

The medical team provided first aid and conducted primary medical examinations and ascertained that the boy's vital signs were normal.

The boy was taken to Al Ain Hospital where further medical tests were conducted.

Lt. Col. Al Hajiri urged parents to keep a close watch on their children at all times, especially children under 10.

He urged parents to take every precaution and extreme care to ensure that no parents ever had to face a similar situation.
