Dubai: The Dubai Police chief has dismissed word circulating on social media that authorities are apparently setting up hidden roadside radar speed traps.

In a radio interview on Tuesday, Maj Gen Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina said there are no plans for such disguised electronic units in the emirate.

Maj Gen Al Mazeina denied that Dubai Police or any of the UAE police forces are using new concealed radars that are made to look like they are part of the metal barriers of the roads.

His comments come after photos of the said radars have been circulating on social media.

Even the mobile radars, he said, are placed in plain sight where any driver on the road can see them.

Maj Gen Al Mazeina said that the Ministry of Interior is very transparent with the public and whenever new radars are installed, they talk about it in the media and tell the public how it works.

He noted that the road, greenery and the surroundings of the radar in the photo does not look like anything that can be found in the UAE.
