Abu Dhabi: Grants provided by the UAE locally and abroad amounted to Dh39 billion during the first nine months of 2017.

This is a 44.8 per cent increase from grants provided throughout 2016, according to statistics issued by the UAE Central Bank on Tuesday.

The grants given in 2017 represented 9.7 per cent of total government spending, which included federal and local spending of every emirate, amounting to an estimated Dh401 billion.

The grants were distributed as follows: Dh10.3 billion in the first quarter, Dh17.4 billion in the second quarter, and Dh11.2 billion during the third.

The increase in the value of grants reflects the UAE’s keenness to boost its status on the list of most generous countries, not just in the Middle East, but on a global level as well.
