Dubai: Dubai Police has restored its official twitter account late on Sunday after it came under attack from a previously unknown group.
The group which identified itself on Twitter as @TheHorsemenLulz hacked
the Dubai Police’s Twitter account @DubaiPoliceHQ and wrote a message that says it hacked the account because it was “spying on you”.
Hacking Twitter accounts has become a phenomenon in cyberspace recently but it has rarely happened in the UAE.
The Dubai Police account is a popular account with social media users as it provides news, alerts and public service notices and advices. It has nearly 260,000 followers.
Through its Twitter account, Dubai Police keep motorists aware of any accidents, traffic jams, emergencies on the road and traffic diversions.
