Abu Dhabi: The anti-narcotic awareness campaign titled ‘They Fooled Me’ has been launched on a number of public buses traversing the main routes of the capital, the Ministry of Interior announced on Monday.

This step reflects the interest of the ministry in interacting with the public and using all resources to raise public awareness about drugs and their impact on the individual, family and society.

Mohammad Nasser Al Otaiba, Acting General Manager of the Bus Office at the Department of Transport that is also working on this campaign, praised the efforts of the ministry in launching the initiative. Al Otaiba said: “The ministry of interior succeeded in communicating effectively with the public, using a number of activities. This reflects the capabilities of the police to stay up-to-date and achieve the objectives of the police and security system.”

“The public transport bus service is a strategic partner for government efforts in awareness programmes and promoting public awareness. We strive to become an essential partner in supporting the trends of government in maintaining safety and security and in stabilising society. As 80,000 passengers use public buses in Abu Dhabi daily, these buses are an important tool for public awareness campaigns. They target both passengers and other road users with the large advertisements that appear clearly and directly to people,” he added.

The campaign features awareness activities through media outlets (TV, radio and print), mall screens and buildings in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and the rest of the UAE, and awareness advertisements through local media outlets.

The campaign, organised by the Security Media Department, aims to raise public awareness and highlight the great dangers of drug abuse through social media, the ministry website and Friday sermons.
