BMX, which stands for Bicycle Moto Cross, is one of the new Olympic sports. Eight riders start together atop an 8-metre high ramp.

The riders race around a dirt course which measures between 300 and 400 metres. As an extra challenge, the course features sharp turns, crests, jumps and descents.

The first four riders to cross the line qualify for the next stage. The top three riders in the final are awarded medals. A total of 48 riders will take part, including 32 men and 16 women.
