London: The family of F1 legend Michael Schumacher have been told by doctors that only ‘a miracle’ can save him.

Sources say wife Corinna and brother Ralf have been consulting specialists over fears that he may be in a permanent vegetative state.

Schumacher, 45, has been in an artificially-induced coma since suffering a head injury while skiing in the French Alps on December 29.

His management team insist that he remains in the ‘wake-up’ phase of his treatment as doctors continue to decrease the drugs that have kept him unconscious.

But family sources say he is in ‘terrible shape’ and that ‘only a miracle can bring him back now’.
