ABU DHABI Archery has had a significant place in the Arab culture. But the presence of the sport in the country has been limited for a long time. Recently some progress has been made to promote the game including setting up of new facilities.

Considering this, the all-new indoor archery range in the Al Forsan International Sports Resort comes as a big boost for budding archers to train under a professional set up. Encased in a climate controlled environment, archers can hit the bull’s eye in the purpose-built 15 metre range and test their mettle against different targets.

“Archery is traditionally part of the Arab culture which enabled to hunt for food as well as to protect their families,” said Neil Seady, manager at Al Forsan Shooting Range.

Competitive level

“We are delighted to be offering one of the best facilities in the country and help promote the sport. Like all sports, everyone has to start at the beginning and work one’s way up the ladder.

“For this firstly one has to have a good, comfortable, well controlled, safe facility. Next is to have quality, well-maintained and technically advanced equipment. A certain level of competency to move up to a competitive level is needed. This goes in hand with personal commitment to overcome obstacles.

“State-of-the-art facilities are set up for archers to work on their skills and master the sport,” he added.

The facility is stocked with upgraded but traditional recurve bows as well as the more modern and complex compound bows and allows archers the opportunity to perfect two different types of archery disciplines at one venue.

Additionally this new archery facility also provides archers to enhance their archery experience with 3D targets that are available upon request.

“To start off we want to get the venue up and running. As we are a commercial resort as opposed to a club, we still love to coach and nurture talent. Academy is not out of the question,” said Seady on the future plans.
