Syria is suffering as world watches
There was a nerve gas attack in Syria just a few days after the metro bomb in Russia (“Gassed to death”, Gulf News, April 5). It is hard to believe this is happening in the 21st century, and the whole world is watching these atrocities. Bashar Al Assad is clearly a dictator. This is so sad! Unspeakable atrocities are being committed.

Terrible state of affairs

Maths is tough, but that’s the point
I don’t get it (“Indian students in UAE launch petition after ‘tough’ maths exam”, Gulf News, April 3). Isn’t mathematics supposed to be all about the understanding of concepts or equations needed for solving problems? So, even if the question is not in textbooks, or is differently worded, you should still be able to get the correct answer. Perhaps there were errors in printing. Why do some children expect a test not to be hard?

Banned medication
Although tramadol, a narcotic-like pain reliever, is not as strong as some drugs, it shares many of the same effects, and is addictive (“Unplanned visit lands student in drug case”, Gulf News, April 3). If he was carrying 4,000 pills, the matter definitely needs investigation.

Nothing has changed

Rents are rising
We just signed a new tenancy contract. Unfortunately, the real estate developer added a five per cent increase to it. No benefits were given to old tenants, only the option to take it or leave for a better priced home. I hope the rent authorities monitor such developers.
