Abu Dhabi: Two Arab children, aged three and four, were seriously injured in a road accident in the capital on Saturday, Abu Dhabi Police said on Sunday. The accident took place on Khaleej Al Arabi Road.

Along with the Asian driver who caused the accident, police also registered a case against the father for neglecting children’s supervision.

Lieutenant Colonel Salah Al Humairi, deputy director of the Abu Dhabi Traffic Department, said, the drive failed to follow the rules and regulations for driving in the residential area, which led to accident and the family was also responsible for poor supervision of their children which allowed them to enter the road.

The police registered two cases — first against the motorist who caused the accident and second against the father of the children for neglecting their supervision.

Negligence of parents in protecting and supervising their children leads to legal action against them, Lt Col Al Humairi said.

He wished speedy recovery for the children who are under treatment at Khalifa and Al Mafraq hospitals in Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi Police urged residents to supervise their children when they enter or cross the roads.
