Dubai: Dubai Police will put up signboards at shopping malls and police stations to encourage residency violators to avail of amnesty which starts on August 1, an official said on Monday.
Lieutenant Colonel Ali Salem Al Shamsi, director of Infiltrators Department at Dubai police, said the signboards in different languages will inform the amnesty seekers about the steps to be taken by them to benefit from the opportunity.
“We received many queries about amnesty procedures. We will install signboards at shopping malls, police stations and the amnesty centre in Al Aweer to guide people about the amnesty procedures,” Lt Col Al Shamsi said.
Initially the signboards will be put up at Al Khail Mall and Dubai Mall.
Lt Col Al Shamsi said: “Officers from our department will be present at Al Aweer centre to answer queries. It is a good chance for illegal residents to legalise their status and benefit from the amnesty.”
Lt Col Al Shamsi said that as many as 10,310 infiltrators and illegal residents were arrested during the first six months this year.
In 2017, Dubai Police nabbed 40,056 infiltrators and illegal residents.
The amnesty centre set up by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA) in Al Aweer will from 8am to 8pm during the amnesty period from August 1 to October 31.
